Training and Regulation

Sarah Howells is a registered osteopath who has undertaken post-graduate training in Animal Osteopathy. Sarah is also a qualified Equine Body Worker and teaches Equine Massage classes on behalf of Equinology (www.equinology.com) & Equinenergy (www.equinenergy.com) both in the UK and abroad.

All treatment is undertaken with prior consent of the vet, as is required under the Veterinary Surgeons Act. To meet the requirements for continued membership of the International Equine Body Worker Association, Sarah completes at least fifteen hours of equine specific continued professional development per year. By keeping up to date with the latest treatment methods and protocols and liasing closely with your vet, our aim is to ensure that your horse receives the very best possible standard of care.

About Us

Here at Usk Osteopathy we treat horses and ponies of all breeds and disciplines, from first ponies, through to Olympic level competition horses. We pride ourselves on treating each horse as an individual and tailoring a treatment and management programme to meet your specific needs.

Sarah worked with horses as a Three Day Event groom prior to training as an osteopath. After graduating as a human osteopath in 1998, Sarah undertook a post-graduate diploma in Animal Osteopathy and now runs a busy mixed equine and human practice with her husband, Meirion. Sarah has travelled extensively with her work, most notably having worked as Osteopath for the Canadian Three-Day Event Team at the Sydney Olympics in 2000, World Equestrian Games in 2002, Pan-American Games in 2003 and Athens Olympics in 2004, treating both horse and rider.

Since having children, Meirion and Sarah have stayed closer to home, but continue to treat horses competing at National and International level, as well as taking on the occasional rehabilitation project in conjunction with Rupert & Emma Humphreys of Castle Farm, Usk.
